My Inquiry Studies Professor was aghast that we, meaning our class, were all attending a ELCA school (Luthern School) yet none of us had ever attended weekday chapel. So he assigned us to go today. I shower up with a friend, and was astounded to find only ONE other person, besides my prof and me and ty, from my class there. Not too promising. I saw down in the hard pews with the single leaf of paper handed to me after walking through the door and expected something i might have at home. ELCA MY ASS. that was anything but. it was like BLAH in a church. the lady preacher person sounded like she was reading a script or an article, and was speaking so quietly it hurt to try to listen. I fidgetted and wished i had a pencil to scribble on that piece of paper with. My prof's son, carsten, kept looking all the way back at me..just staring. staring like "what the fuck are you doing at chapel?". a confused stare. ah the joys of a luthern campus. there were maybe thirty people there, most of them old or religion majors. I did not at all enjoy it. Not that i enjoy church to begin with and i was quite surprised that i didn't burst into flames when i walked through the door, but i expected something better from a school that proclaims its ELCA-ness. good thing i don't plan my days around it, otherwise i would probably shrivel up and die with one little sheet of paper in my hands. twisted because i was so frustated.
